A new poem

by Allan Peterson
In the old days news stayed nearby
sometimes never leaving the scene of its origin
News that spread was meant to convince us for effect—
harrow making ribbons of the man in Kansas
      who blasphemed machinery
how lightning touched a silcock and soured cows
